VLANNON became the latest winner of the New Year for Captain Gerrard, and a fairly rare one for him over jumps! Michael Madgwick’s charge had been tried on the flat without success, but got off the mark in the Juvenile Hurdle at Kempton Park with Marc Goldstein in the saddle. His trainer is of the opinion he’ll make a nice stayer in time, rightly pointing out that all the family have won. He thinks Vlannon is a good horse who is only going to get better – a three-miler in the making. Congratulations to connections, who include his breeder Mrs L N Harmes.
