16.1hh Bay, born 2003
Danehill x Shirley Valentine
Multiplex has an outstanding pedigree. His dam (Shirley Valentine) was a full sister to Deploy, and a half-sister to Warning, Commander In Chief and Dushyantor, famous names on the racecourse and subsequently . She bred nine winners from nine foals, and her own dam (Slightly Dangerous) won the Fred Darling and was second in the Oaks.
Triple Stakes Winner
WON Prix La Rochette (Group 3) Longchamp
WON Prix De Montretout (Listed Race) Longchamp
WON Prix De Saint-Patrick (Listed Race) Deauville
Also Placed in two Group 3 races:
Prix Messidor (Gr3) Maisons-Laffitte
Prix Du Chemin De Fer Du Nord (Gr3) Chantilly
Won four races and £91,535 including a seven furlong Gr 3 at two and a mile listed races at three and four. He was also placed in two group races.
Since retiring to stud in 2009 he has sired the winners of over 200 races worldwide, including Group 3 winners DOWN TO THE MOON(CHI) and SUPERPLEX (GB). He also sired Listed winners and group placed RADIO GAGA (GB), who finished second in the Fred Darling Stakes, and LADY VALEUR (IRE) .
Multiplex shuttled to Chile in 2010, and continues to do well with his runners in South America having only stood there for that one season, siring both Group 1 and Group 2 placed and Listed winners in 2014.
He has also established his credentials as a dual-purpose sire. His jumpers do well - Out Sam, top rated 142 over fences, was winner of a hot novice chase at Newbury, and Positively Dylan finished second in the Listed bumper on the same card. Later the same day, across the Atlantic, the formerly Irish-trained Lady Valeur was a wide-margin winner of a maiden worth $58,000 at Santa Anita, California, and went on to win a Listed race and was also placed in a Group 1 in California in 2016.
Richard bought Multiplex, a Group 3-winning son of Danehill bred and campaigned by Juddmonte, because he was looking for a horse with a top pedigree to cover Flat mares, but being out of a Shirley Heights mare he also had a chance of doing well as a jumps sire - and thankfully that's how it's turned out. He's not a bad judge!
Multiplex's pedigree is the key to his success. He is out of a half-sister or sister to Commander In Chief, Deploy, Dushyantor, Warning and Yashmak, and is from the family of Rainbow Quest and Scenic, both champion sires.
His stock are strong solid types who cope with the rigours of training and who rarely leave an empty feed trough! They are very genuine and easy to manage, and they usually need the same trip as their dams.
"It's a top Juddmonte family - you usually find that the horses with the best pedigrees do best, it's the same for humans!" says Richard.
