The Mickley-bred SIZE MATTERS won the first division of the 7 furlong Handicap at Ayr on Monday. Jointly owned by R Kent & M D Eddery, the Captain Gerrard 3yo was dropping back in trip and this was his first victory after a few decent placed performances.
This fellow is out of the Mark of Esteem mare Icky Woo, so he is a half-brother to Jonathon Portman’s prolific ICKYMASHO, an eight-time winner who was placed in a Listed race at Deaville on her last outing.
Jason Hart had the ride and was able to dominate from off the home turn. Size Matters led from 3f out and maintained a narrow lead entering the final furlong, then extended his advantage resolutely over the last 150yds. Let’s hope Size Matters can go on to better things now, and congratulations to trainer Mark Walford!
