Captain Gerrard had his first two-year-old winner of the season at Redcar today when POPSI, in first-time cheekpieces, landed the spoils for trainer Jo Hughes and connections. The filly set the standard for the race, based on her three previous outings in France, and duly delivered a very decent performance, making virtually all the running under Franny Norton, staying on well towards the finish and showing plenty of courage to hold on under pressure.
