LOFGREN won a fairly decent staying handicap chase at Cartmel for trainer Donald McCain and jockey Brian Hughes. They went a decent gallop and it produced a thrilling duel after the last. The Multiplex gelding had finished a close second from 4lb lower in a similar Bangor contest on good ground earlier in the month. On today’s soft ground, he bided his time until properly attacking after the last, and narrowly getting the better of last year’s winner on the lengthy run-in after an engaging tussle.
