Ginger McCain’s legacy lives on, as LASTBUTNOTLEAST won the Listed Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle at Doncaster today. Bought by Ginger as a foal, on the advice of Mickley Stud’s Richard Kent, LASTBUTNOTLEAST made it three from three over hurdles, with a game effort from the front to win by 3¼ lengths. She had previously enjoyed success in a National Hunt Flat race and an Irish PTP, so this took her tally of wins to five.
There was plenty to like about the way she travelled, and she battled bravely up the straight to maintain her unbeaten record over hurdles. She is a resolute stayer who looks progressive and should be a nice prospect for connections.
