Now a nine-time winner, Royal Marskell, a son of Multiplex trained by Gay Kelleway, got back on the winning trail at Lingfield in the Class 3 Stayers Handicap. The gelding still had ground to make up when coming under pressure approaching the home bend, but he responded well under a brilliant ride from David Egan and stuck at it to collar the favourite near the line. He has plenty of ability and could be heading to Newcastle next.
